  Sam Paik Founder and Senior Director  After a successful career in international finance, Sam founded SA Sports in 2014 to develop and operate active and interactive programs that help cultivate the importance of good health, imagination, and teamwork in children. Sam graduated with a BA degree in History from Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT. He and his wife Phoebe are the proud parents of Ellen, 23, and Lauren, 21.

  Elizabeth Shin Director of Programs    After graduating from Davidson College in Davidson, NC, Elizabeth promptly pursued her passion to combine traveling and teaching. Over the years, she has taught English to children in the US, Honduras, Argentina, Korea, and Japan. Elizabeth is an avid runner. After volunteering at ultramarathons in Chile, China, and Jordan, she completed a 250-km footrace in Ecuador.

  Dave Campbell Director of Sciences    Dave Campbell has over 20 years in high school education- teaching engineering and robotics. Dave earned his Bachelors of Science in Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology from Miami University - Ohio. He and his students compete annually in the FIRST Robotics competition. In addition to his passion for robotics education, Dave is also an endurance athlete. He enjoys participating in Ironman triathlon, ultra-marathons, ultra-distance cycling and adventure races.

  Phoebe Shin Director of Art and Design  Phoebe is the founder and CEO of Andante Design, a company that curates and consults in art, design, and cultural content. She has frequently lectured at universities across Korea about art and design. Phoebe studied in three different countries.   Jaclyn Eichenberger Director of Languages    Jaclyn is an enthusiastic leader focused on developing learning communities that value all cultures, languages, and identities. She brings this passion to Camp Hokulea through her English language curriculum, which capitalizes on students' strengths and home cultures. Jaclyn is currently a master's student at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She draws on her experience as a K-5 English Learner teacher to dive deeper into bilingual education theories and practices

Yefei is currently the Product Manager at Nearpod for ELL, the award winning interactive platform for teachers to creatively engage students. Yefei is also the founder and advisor of LessonPick, the online collaboration tool for teachers of English Learners. He received his B.A. from the Univ. of Minnesota Twin Cities and his M.Ed. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

  Erin Lynch Counselor/Instructor    Erin is an elementary school teacher in Minnesota. She is a big runner and is training for her 3rd marathon this summer! She’s also a huge soccer fan and watches English Premier League Soccer.  Her favorite team is Manchester United.

  Sophia Graf Junior Counselor    Sophia is a student at Le Jardin Academy. She was born on Oahu where she's lived her entire life. She loves hiking, listening to music, and scuba diving.

  Taeyong Kim Director of Operations  Taeyong Kim is the principal planner and owner of Environmental Communications, Inc., one of Hawaii’s founding environmental planning firms. He introduced Sam to his friends in various branches of the Hawaiian state government to collaborate on this project. Taeyong is a third generation Hawaii Korean-American and is currently the Director of Hawaii Korean Chamber of Commerce. Taeyong received his Master of Business and BA in Sociology from the University of Hawaii.

  Christopher Clark Director of Sports  Born and raised in Boston, Christopher looks to connect the world through education, sports and technology. Upon graduating from college, he pursued a globe-trotting career in sports, playing professional and semi-professional soccer in the United States, Europe, Australia and Asia. He is a NSCAA coach, having worked with soccer clubs, Academy of Excellence in New York City, and Espzen in Singapore. Most recently, he organized matches for the global streetfootballworld Festival 16 in Lyon, France. Aside from sports, he enjoys writing cool JavaScript functions and teaching code to kids.

  Max Lee Junior Counselor    Max will be entering Wesleyan University this fall. He was part of the tennis, cross country, and track & field team at Choate Rosemary Hall. He has volunteered at the Special Olympics and a local dog shelter.

  Matt Kim Junior Counselor    Matt is the president of the Asian Student Association  and prefect for the Freshmen boys dorm at his high school. Matt graduated from Choate Rosemary Hall , where he was the president of the Asian Student Association and prefect for the Freshmen boys dorm, and will be entering his Freshman year at Amherst College.   He is an avid tennis player.

  Nami Hoffman Junior Counselor     Nami will begin her first year at Northwestern University this fall. At her high school, Blair Academy, Nami was a prefect in the freshman girl's dorm, co-founder and leader of the photography club and she also ran cross country. She is very excited to spend time at Camp Hokulea for the first time this summer!
