Founder and Senior Director
After a successful career in international finance, Sam founded SA Sports in 2014 to develop and operate active and interactive programs that help cultivate the importance of good health, imagination, and teamwork in children. Sam graduated with a BA degree in History from Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT. He and his wife Phoebe are the proud parents of Ellen, 22, and Lauren, 20.
Director of Art and Design
Phoebe is the founder and CEO of Andante Design, a company that curates and consults in art, design, and cultural content. She has frequently lectured at universities across Korea about art and design. Phoebe studied in three different countries. Her first undergraduate studies began at Parsons School of Design in NY and was completed at Ewha Womans University in Seoul, Korea. She went on to complete another BA in Ceramics and MA in Fine Arts (Printmaking) at the University of the Arts London, Camberwell College of Arts.
Director of Operations
Taeyong Kim is the principal planner and owner of Environmental Communications, Inc., one of Hawaii’s founding environmental planning firms. He introduced Sam to his friends in various branches of the Hawaiian state government to collaborate on this project. Taeyong is a third generation Hawaii Korean-American and is currently the Director of Hawaii Korean Chamber of Commerce. Taeyong received his Master of Business and BA in Sociology from the University of Hawaii.
Director of Programs
After graduating from Davidson College in Davidson, NC, Elizabeth promptly pursued her passion to combine traveling and teaching. Over the years, she has taught English to children in the US, Honduras, Argentina, Korea, and Japan. Elizabeth is an avid runner. After volunteering at ultramarathons in Chile, China, and Jordan, she completed a 250-km footrace in Ecuador.
Assistant Camp Director
Yefei Jin brings a whole-child philosophy to empowering children. He is passionate about creating a healthy mind and body in every child. Beyond teaching, he enjoys reading about education policy and building technology that supports teachers. Yefei is currently the Product Manager at Nearpod for ELL, the award winning interactive platform for teachers to creatively engage students. Yefei is also the founder and advisor of LessonPick, the online collaboration tool for teachers of English Learners. He received his B.A. from the Univ. of Minnesota Twin Cities and his M.Ed. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Director of Language
Jaclyn Eichenberger currently teaches elementary-aged English Learners (ELs) in Minnesota, servicing Spanish and Hmong speakers primarily. Prior to teaching ELs, Jaclyn taught reading to students in grades K-3 through a national service program, AmeriCorps. Additionally, she taught English abroad in Cambodia and assisted in teaching adult English classes at a local center for Adult Basic Education. She received her B.A. from Bethel University in St. Paul, MN and her K-12 Reading License from Hamline University also located in St. Paul. Jaclyn looks forward to beginning her master's program at Harvard's Graduate School of Education this fall.
Director of Science
Dave Campbell has over 20 years in high school education- teaching engineering and robotics. Dave earned his Bachelors of Science in Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology from Miami University - Ohio. He and his students compete annually in the FIRST Robotics competition. In addition to his passion for robotics education, Dave is also an endurance athlete. He enjoys participating in Ironman triathlon, ultra-marathons, ultra-distance cycling and adventure races.

Camp Program and Management
Heike joined the Culver Academies in 2013 as the Director of Woodcraft and Junior Woodcraft Camps. She spent six summers working at Woodcraft Camp prior to being named the Interim Director of Woodcraft in 2013. She earned a BA in Economics from DePauw University and a Juris Doctor from Valparaiso University School of Law in 1995. After passing the bar in both Indiana and Illinois, Heike practiced law before shifting her career to higher education administration. She is a former Assistant Dean at the University of Chicago Law School and Valparaiso University Law School. Heike and her husband Philip, an attorney in Chicago, are the proud parents of one daughter, Rachel.
Foreign Language Program
Heekyeong is an Associate Professor of TESOL/ TFL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages/ Teaching Foreign Language) at Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey. With Dr. H. Douglas Brown, she co-authored the fourth edition of Teaching by Principles (2015, published by Pearson Education), which is a widely-acclaimed methodology text used in language teacher education programs around the world. She was awarded a Ph.D. in Second Language Education from McGill University, Montreal, Canada.
Child Development Psychology
Jae is an Associate Professor of Psychology at San Francisco State University. Her research focuses on the development of early mathematical concepts, comparison processes, and verb acquisitions. She is particularly interested in the intricate relations between language, culture, and conceptual development. She is currently conducting various studies examining the cross-cultural differences between English, French, Korean, and Chinese-speaking children’s cognitive development. Jae received her Ph.D. in developmental psychology and cognitive science from Indiana University in 2005.
